a good knife worth the money. the balance is perfect but the sharpening job is teribble. i can actualy run my thumb up and duwn the blade with out being cut.save your money and buy a cutlery shapener. i beleive A.C.C. sells one. the sheath is very good its made out of very stiff leather with nickel silver tip and collar. the ingraving is very nice well done lear eazy to read regardless of the knifes angle. it comes with a sticker on it saying windlass steelcraft. its hard to get off. just use some zippo lighter fluid and it will wipe right off.

Very well made. So far the knife seems very durable. The sheath is holding in the knife well enough. I paid for extra sharpening and the knife is holding the edge quite well.

I am disapointed with the quality of this kknife and sheath. The steel seems cheap, the tang is only aprox 1 & 1/2 inches into the handle. The Sheath is heavy enough but it has no way to attach it to the boot so it slides down deep inside where it gets real hard to fish out. I will not even give it to a youngster for fear of it falling out of the sheath and hurting someone.

If you're looking for a 'using' knife, then ante up the extra cash for the sharpening service. The factory edge won't cut cold grease. Also, the sheath is for tucking into a boot top or under a belt. No clip, no belt loop, no attatchment whatsoever. Also, the blade is beveled both to the edge and to the spine, as with a dagger. The bevel to the spine does leave a slight flat along the spine so it is not double edged. In other words, don't even think about using it with a baton for splitting kindling. Western Boot Knife is a decent knife once sharpened - a LOT of work with a file and stone though. Comfortable in the hand, takes a good edge, edge retention is fair to good. Fine for light utility work, or as jewelry for your cowboy action shooting outfit.
