The CSS Tennessee was a 1273 ton ironclad ram.  Built in Selma, AL, she was she strongest unit of the naval defenses at Mobile Bay.  After an intense battle on August 5th, 1864, she was surrendered to union forces and renamed the USS Tennessee.  Her damage was repaired and she served the US Navy until 1867.
