The highland warriors of Scotland’s past carried a small lethal knife called the Sgian Dubh or Skean Dhu (which means "Black Knife" in Gaelic).  Typically, a kilt clad warrior carried it covertly on his person or wedged in his stocking top.

This extremely well made modern take on the classic is designed by Lynn C. Thompson.  This small, compact, multi-purpose knife will serve admirably as a hunting or utility knife or as an alternative to a double edge boot knife. The thin, needle sharp tip is ideally suited for piercing, and the precision taper ground AUS 8A stainless steel blade has been honed by hand to razor sharpness. The traditional jimping on the blade spine is both ornamental and functional, providing an aggressive non-slip platform for the thumb or forefinger to bear downward as needed for maximum control.

The compact Kraton® handle is designed to accommodate a wide variety of comfortable and secure grip positions, and its slim, flat cross section insures that it will resist turning or twisting in the hand. Kraton® is a superior handle material that allows it to withstand the shock of even the hardest blows. Comes with a lightweight, sturdy Secure-Ex® sheath that’s been specially designed for inconspicuous carry. It comes with a detachable boot/belt clip, lashing slots and neck chain so you can wear or carry it everywhere you go.

I am incredibly impressed with this knife! The edge is razor sharp out of the box. Everything about this weapon is designed with concealment in mind. The Kraton grip is exceptional, and the sheath is strong and very comfortable. By "detachable belt clip" I assumed that they meant one of those cheap clip on clip off style deals, but instead was pleasantly surprised to find that it is a strong flat clip that slides in an out of a little slot on the back of the sheath. I am very glad that Cold Steel has remade this Scottish tradition, and proudly bear one as the descendant of a Scotchman myself.
