In 1878, the Francotte patent Martini System was granted utilizing a detachable mechanism fitted without the Cocking Indicator. Revolutionary at the time by compartmentalizing the mechanism for quick disassembly, it only lasted 10 years as the latest technology. It was replaced in 1888 with the .303 caliber Lee Metford bolt action rifle’s introduction into the British Military System. Although this European improvement was never embraced by the British, these "improved system rifles” saw much service on frontiers all over the World. The Martini Short Lever Rifle saw tremendous and valiant service in the British Army worldwide.  It's most famous appearance was in the Zulu Wars of 1879, memorialized in Hollywood epic movies and countless books and articles over the years.

These particular Martini Infantry Rifles were used by the Gurkha detachments mostly in the Indian Sub Continent and are offered in half rifles or parts guns. Each rifle is offered totally as found, incomplete, broken, un-cleaned and un-refurbished. Totally covered and caked with dried on grease, dirt and rust, they can be used for parts, rebuilt or displayed as found. No guarantees as to what use or damage may be found after more than 100 years of neglect and storage.

Everything is in good condition on this parts gun. Some pitining on under side of barrel. Action is tight, rifling is good also. When I first started cleaning I thought it was pitted bad, but very little only at the muzzle so much yak fat in the barrel I've gone through a box of cleaning patches and one bore brush. Only thing missing was the butt stock. Thanks again AC. Don D.

Ordered 2. Kinda crappy. Deep pitting on underside of barrel. Fore-end wood poor. One of barrels cracked at chamber. Other OK except for exterior rust. Receiver parts are still good. Your better off getting the complete untouched rifle for $150.

What a deal for the price ! Mine arrived almost display-ready. Missing the buttstock as expected. The lever action worked perfectly when I couldn't resist testing it before cleaning started. And 'Yes' I had to stand at the ready singing "Men of Harlech' with it in hand.

I recieved this parts rifle last week. There is pitting on the outside of the barrel, but the bore is near perfect, the action worked, cocked and firing pin dropped right out of the box, has the sights, sling rings, and has cleaned up remarkably well. Spent 5 hours cleaning, only missing a butt stock to be a very nice weapon.

For $80.00 this is a good deal. The action is solid and in better condition then most I've seen for sale online or at gun shows. All of the hardware was present except the buttplate, the stock, or what remained of it, was toast. But I expected that. Once I managed to get a brush and a dozen patches through the barrel I'm pretty sure that there is rifling present and there doesn't seem to be any areas of crusty rust. I dpubt that I will win any target shoots with this rifle as is stands but for $80.00 and a couple of hours of cleaning the action alone is worth the money. Bill M.
