The British Brunswick Rifle with back action lock was officially adopted in 1837 with a 36" barrel incorporating two groove rifling for a belted ball. Trials continued to experiment with multiple grooved rifling and eventually, in 1841, a smooth-bore version was experimentally developed. In effect an inane trial in that the whole point of the adoption of the Brunswick was the increased accuracy of a rifled barrel. (Conceivably these trials were for comparison purposes for accuracy and rate of fire.) The “manufactured” smooth Brunswick’s were soon abandoned and now are only a footnote to military firearms history. Comes with bayonet (no scabbard fr bayonet).  No patch box lid available.

All show extensive use but each appears, by and large, to be complete. They may, or may not function, once the thick layer of congealed dirt, grime, grease and rust are removed, and may suffer from cracks and breaks which is to be expected after more than a century of neglect. Again only offered in AS IS condition; complete with caked on debris from battle and storage. There are NO Guarantees other than that each gun is completely genuine and very old. These relics should be likened to an archaeological dig, so no unreasonable demands or gripes please. Now offered at a bargain price for the enthusiast to enjoy as is or to spend the time and TLC to carefully restore; each weapon is REAL, ANTIQUE and is offered AS FOUND. Picture is a typical example; each weapon will vary of course.  There is a $10.00 additional shipping & handling charge with item, cannot be shipped USPS. We can hand select the best rifle for an additional fee of $50.00.

Each gun will feature:
The barrel and action (which may be incomplete), reproduction butt plate (if missing) and sword bayonet #600815.  There is no guarantee for any other parts.

Condition: usually show rust & pitting and be covered in dirt as originally stored.  Otherwise they may not operate because of seizing or could be otherwise incomplete.  Plus there may be additional cracks, missing chunks, old repairs.

Note: These guns were manufactured before 1898 and are therefore legally considered antiques. It is totally legal to own these without a U.S. Federal Firearms License (FFL) and they can be shipped to most countries around the world.

This is my 4th rifle from AC. This was a hand select & what a beauty! Thanks AC. Under all the grease and grime was one small hairline crack, wii not even repair it, the action and lock fine, all parts with the exception of the patch box and one 1"x1/2" brass piece on the side. Removing the heavy grease there appears to be writing on the stock in Nepali, pretty neat. The barrel has very little rusting and only 11 area where the steel is pitted. A true jem. See my other reviews. C. Green

The Rifle arrived in great condition. A couple of cracks in the stock, but that's why they make glue! No rust, pitting, broken or missing parts (well, one brass plate for the mid-barrel key. We'll make a new one.) The brass patch box replacement cover is oversized, and will require some "body and fender work", but that's ok too. This 168 year old rifle is in great shape! Thanks AC!

What came out of the box looked like it had come out of an ocean-bottom shipwreck, but the wood was in fine condition and cleaned up very well. The lock had a broken escapement catch and the trigger spring was compressed beyond salvaging. Since I had subsequently bought a second Brunswick I bought a parts gun, and the lock parts worked perfectly. After polishing the rust off the barrel, and cleaning and re-oiling the stock my P-1841 is now a most splendid-looking antique. I also had to trim the included patch-box cover and inlet the stock to fit it into the stock in place of the now-missing original. The one AC sent me is for a different gun, but with a couple hours' work it now fits mine perfectly. I recommend this gun to anyone who knows how to work and shape brass, and who has experience restoring wood. Expect to spend a week to a month leisurely working on it to get it into presentable condition.

I ordered the hand select. What a surprise! I received a fully working, complete, down to the brass furniture, museum quality Brunswick. I wiped the entire rifle down with denatured alcohol, scrubbed the bore, oiled the stock and after checking it out, it's ready to shoot! It has a couple of dings on the stock to add character but nothing as I imagined! The bayonet will take some work as it is pretty rusty. Overall a 9 1/2 out of 10! on this purchase! Sometimes you just get lucky! Thanks A/C ! Bob
