The great success of the P-1871 Martini Henry short lever rifle had only been marred by the occasional difficulty experienced with the ejection of the spent cartridge, due to powder residue fouling the chamber. The solution was the introduction of the P-1885 Long Lever model that provided greater leverage for case extraction. In front line service for only three years when it was superseded by the .303 caliber P-1888, the P-1885 Martini saw principal use in Britain's overseas Colonial Empire. These rifles are in good to very good condition. There is a $10.00 additional shipping & handling charge with item, cannot be shipped USPS. We can hand select the best rifle for an additional fee. No express shipping on hand select orders.

Note: These guns were manufactured before 1898 and are therefore legally considered antiques. It is totally legal to own these without a U.S. Federal Firearms License (FFL) and they can be shipped to most countries around the world.

Great Rifle!!! Well worth the extra $50 for the hand select. Overall appearance was great, functioned flawlessly, and the bore looked very good. Looking forward to getting another one soon.

Of all the various hand-selected models of the antique military rifles and muskets that I have ordered from A/C, this is by far the best in over all condition. The metal has been refinished and is a deep blue color, including the cleaning rod. Shallow pitting however, is present in places under the bluing. The wood has a few minor dings and required a good wipe down to remove the packing grease. The barrel under the forearm was grease coated. The stock bolt came out easy and was coated with grease. The butt stock has a very nice cartouche from the Rawul-Pindi Arsenal in India and a 1908 date. There was surface rust in the bore and it took a good cleaning before the patches stopped coming out with tinges of red on them. The bore is not pitted however.

I purchased one of these back in January, and after a couple weeks of cleaning it looked great. Mechanically in excellent condition, bore was beautiful, wood was in good shape. Loading is a bit of a challenge finding all the right components, but they are available. At the range, it is a very accurate rifle. Trigger pull is relatively heavy, but shooting at 200 yards offhand I was able to accurately call my shots. I did pay extra for hand select and think it was well worth the extra money. Great rifle!
