The HD stands for heavy duty and we mean it. This is one stout chunk of razor sharp steel that will take an absolute beating and gladly ask for more. The full profile tang is strong & comfortable, and gives a very secure grip with the attractive hand-stitched, heavy grade genuine leather wrap. Hammer pommel is blackened steel. Hand forged, high carbon steel blade. Includes genuine leather belt sheath.

IMO this is not a hand forged carbon steel blade. Recently, certain asian manufacturers have developed techniques to make knives look forged but they really aren't. I think this is probably 420 or 440 stainless steel. That said, this is a solid, tough work knife. Edge holding is average. A razor edge does not last long but re-sharpening is easy.

rugged, takes a real beating. Definitely a field knife: thick, solid one piece construction. For what I used it for, it was absolutely perfect. You can hammer on it, use it as a hammer, etc. I know I'll get years of use from this puppy. Very pleased-- the ruggedest knife I've found yet.
