This is the sword issued during the last half of the 18th century to British Marines, the Royal Artillery, and county militias. Most examples carry an Ordnance stamp struck into the base of the blade in the form of a crowned numeral, or less often a "Crowned Broad Arrow."
This limited edition replica has an etched blade (on both sides) commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence (“Semiquincentennial”, if you like technical terminology), displaying the words “250 Years Of Liberty” and both the Betsy Ross flag (with 13 stars) and the current Stars and Stripes.
The cast brass hilt has a heart-shaped guard with reinforced edges, a plain knucklebow, a bulbous quillon and an ovoid pommel with a capstan. The grip has a wooden core with twisted brass wire wrap. The blade is slightly curved, single-edged and has fullers running down the spine for most of its length. Includes a leather scabbard with brass chape and throat.
