New Orleans was initially a site of a CSA Naval Ordnance Depot and a prime target for Union forces. The ship fitters of the South produced some very innovative warships to protect this important base. These included the CSS Manassas, as well as two submarines, one being the Pioneer which unfortunately did not see action before the fall of the city. Yet it was a pre-cursor of things to come with its cigar shape, large single propeller and bow planes. Many of our modern subs today take a cue from this design. Resin, hand painted. Comes mounted to display stand. 16” overall.
