Great Britain WWI Trench Sword

Out of stock

Made famous by The Royal Welsh Fusiliers and their fierce, brutal style of hand-to-hand fighting during the Battle of Messines Ridge in 1917. Meticulously replicated from an original of tough high carbon, tempered steel w/cord wrap grip. The folding circular cross guard works and the crusher pommel is nasty. It’s easy to see why this weapon was so effective in the right hands. Etched on one side of the blade is DROS URDDAS CYMRU, which translates – “For The Dignity of Wales”. Complete with heavy leather sheath covered in green canvas. Based on an ancient Celtic design it’s been extremely effective for hundreds of years. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts.

Not a BAD blade, but was much broader & thinner in cross-section than I expected from the pics.  Grip is also quite small-like it was made for a small person or woman's hand.  Also came coated in some kind of grease that I may have to use a solvent on to get off.  Description also does not say that it's "made in India" as stamped on the blade.  Will keep it, but I'm a little disappointed.

Beautiful, very high-quality item. Fit and finish excellent, as is the sheath--solid thick leather with a OD cloth wrap. The hand-guard, which flips flat for sheathing, is admittedly a bit clunky, but that is true to the original design and part of its charm. As good as "Sting" while also historical and clearly functional. Rope on handle is more yellow than appears from the photo (fine with me). Highly recommended.
