The H.L. Hunley was the first submarine to sink a warship, although the sub was lost following the skirmish. This warship has since been found and resides in Charleston, SC, and it''s innovative design changed warfare forever. After the first clashes of ironclads took place during the American Civil War it became clear that the ironclad was the most powerful warship afloat.
