Part of the legendary P-1853 .577 caliber “Three Band Enfield” percussion rifle, the extremely popular and rare model that was the first rifle to become standard issue to the British army. The P-1853 forced changes in military tactics and was imported in large numbers for the Civil War. These locks come complete with side screws and integral parts: lock plate, hammer, hammer screw tumbler, sear, sear spring, bridle, link and mainspring. Each is functional (or near functional; might be frozen) but each is hand-made and will require fitting into any stock or barrel configuration.
The original side screws might be stripped, detached or slightly bent. If the screws are in the plate, they will most certainly be stuck in place after 150 years in storage. Some pitting and minor rust is present. An impressive part of any antique gun collection all by itself.
