Considered by many the best fighter of WWII, the P-51 Mustang was first introduced with an Allison engine and  it was a performance failure. When mated with the British Merlin engine it became a war winner. Able to escort bombers on the deepest penetration raids over Germany, it also served  as a long-range escort in the Pacific and stayed in service with 3rd world countries until the 1960’s. All metal model.
