Although not as famous as the confederate "D" guard bowie, which often almost reached short sword proportions, the bowie knife was in use on both sides of the war. We have chosen to call this a "Union" bowie as this is one of the types of patterns being produced by cutlery companies of the era in the north. The knife is of a size that would be useful for camplife in the field and was justified as a good back-up weapon. The high carbon steel blade is well-tempered. The guard and pommel are from solid brass and the grip is polished hardwood that narrows in the center for a very firm grip. Leather scabbard included. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®.
